Some users have reported iPhone 7 EarPod issue like the controls on the EarPods themselves stop working sometimes. The EarPods controls help users to change the volume of the audio, answer calls, talk to Siri, or pause music.
Some users have reported that the Lightning EarPods’ volume and call answer/end buttons become unresponsive after a few minutes of inactivity. While other reported that when the audio continues to play, and the microphone remains active, the volume setting cannot be adjusted . Some other reported that they had some problems in starting or stopping calls, as well as asking Siri to do things.
The good news is Apple has just released iOS 10.0.2 with some bugs fixes including the iPhone 7 EarPods issue. Here’s what the company stated about the update:

Addresses an issue that could prevent headphone audio controls from temporarily not working. Resolves an issue that caused Photos to quit for some users when turning on iCloud Photo Library. Fixes an issue that prevented enabling some app extensions.
iPhone 7 EarPod Issue Fixed
The iOS 10.0.2 update is available now. Simply go to Settings > General > Software Update and you will soon be able to enjoy some bug fixes on your iPhone 7 including the iPhone 7 EarPod issue.
The iPhone 7 is currently available both in stores and online. It ships with Lightning EarPods and Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone adapter in a paperboard package, a 5W Power Adapter and one meter Lightning cable.
